It’s December and it’s the last month of the year, so I wanted to discuss the genre/sub-genre that has dominated 2021 anime blogs.
For me it has to be Isekai.
For those who don’t know let’s start by defining the word Isekai.
Isekai is sub-genre of a fantasy in which main character/characters are transported from their original world into a different or unfamiliar world.
What makes Isekai?
It usually involves humans moving [from] to unfamiliar worlds when they die and getting reincarnated, or moving in-between worlds [from their original world to the new one by their own will or by the one controlling that world]. Not all main characters (mc) have to die and get reincarnated in order for it to be an Isekai. The mc can get teleported to this unfamiliar world, stuck in the another world, maybe come out of a coma or find a portal connecting their world to the other world. There are various ways this can occur, none limited by death or reincarnation.
These are some of the long running and most popular Isekai:
- Sword Art Online
- That time I got reincarnated as a slime
- Re-Zero starting life in another world
If you are Isekai fan or you just starting, do yourself a favor and checkout these Isekai anime:
- Faraway Paladin
- How a realistic hero rebuilds the kingdom.
- The World’s Finest Assassin Gets Reincarnated in Another World as an Aristocrat
- Mushoku Tensei Jobless Reincarnation
- I’m standing on a million lives
- Battle Game in 5 seconds.
